See How Fur Traders Lived

Curious about life in Wisconsin in the early 1800s?  Check out the Fur Traders Rendezvous at Lost Falls Campground in Black River Falls May 17th - 19th.  There will be demonstrations and displays from this pre-civil war period. Friday and Saturday from 9AM-9PM and Sunday 9AM-Noon. Free Admission.

Celebrate Earth Day with the Friends of the Black River Annual Earth Day Clean Up Saturday April 20th. Volunteers should meet at the log cabin at the entrance of Castle Mound State Park.

Easter Eats

Snow or no snow, Easter is coming this weekend. If you're looking for a good meal to celebrate, check out these events.

The 5th Annual Warrens Area Community Easter Breakfast will be Saturday March 30th 8AM to 10AM at the Lions Log Building in Warrens. Free breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt at 9:15AM. Donations of non-perishable food items accepted for The Neighbor to Neighbor Food Pantry.

Also on Saturday will be the Easter Bunny Brunch sponsored by Partners of Black River Memorial Hospital from 8:30AM to 11 AM at the Black River Falls High School. Delicious food along with games, door prizes, raffles, face painting, costumed characters, castle bounce, photos with the Easter Bunny & more. $6/person. Easter Egg Hunt 11:15AM on south lawn of the High School.

Easter Sunday the Best Western Arrowhead Lodge/Orange Moose Bar & Grill in Black River Falls will have an Easter Buffet from 10:30AM to 2PM. Prices are $13.95/Adults $11.95/Seniors $6.95/Kids 12 & under.

Black River Paddle

Get your kayaks and canoes ready! March 23rd and 24th there will be two Friends of the Black River Paddles.

On Saturday meet 10AM at Robinson Creek (Old Highway I) and paddle to Fall Hall Glen. Sunday 10AM the paddle will start at Halls Creek, lower lake in Merrillan and end in Black River Falls.

Kids Hunter Safety Program Registration

Have a young person looking forward to hunting?  Registration for the Hunters Safety Programs are happening all across Jackson County. Learn more about Hunters Safety Programs at the Wisconsin DNR website Hunter Safety Education

Alma Center: Register by calling David Durni at Lincoln High School 715-964-5311. Classes will be held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays March 11th through March 26th at 7PM

Black River Falls: Register next Tuesday March 5th from 5PM to 7PM at the Black River Falls Middle School. Students will need DNR customer number and a parent or guardian must be present to sign forms and pay fee. Classes will be March 7th, March 12th, March 19th, March 21st, March 26th, April 2nd and April 4th from 6:45PM to 9PM.  The Field Test will be April 6th and Written Test will be April 9th.

Melrose: Register by contacting Gregory Totten at the Melrose Rod and Gun Club 715-284-5923. Classes will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays March 14th through March 30th at 7PM.  

Taylor: Register by contacting Gerald Blazek at the Taylor Rod and Gun Club 715-896-2107. Classes will be held Mondays March 11th through April 29th at 6PM. The Field Test will be April 27th.
