Five Jackson County Women Honored

These area ladies remind us that we can make a difference in our communities.  Story by Cassandra Colson Jackson County Chronicle.
Five Jackson County women were honored last week as the newest recipients of the county’s Women in History awards.

Local residents Joan Brown, Carolyne Hensel, Lila Lynne, Leota Simonson and Dorothy Will received the awards at a ceremony held March 20.

The program began after a former president of the local AARP brought information on National Women in History month to a meeting of Seniors and Lawmen Together, and the groups began co-sponsoring the program. Recipients must be over 60 years old, county residents and show leadership within their communities and county.

Jackson County Wisconsin Outdoor Report as of September 17, 2009

Black River State Forest – The section of All-terrain Vehicle (ATV) trail from Campground Road to the Clay School Parking lot is temporarily closed again due to excessive water on the trails and riders going off trail to avoid these sections. During this time of closure a temporary route has been authorized with the Town of Komensky. Work is complete on upgrading the wetland crossings on a 1.1-mile section of trail from Wildcat Road heading west. There is some top dressing to be done on the crossings but this work will be done the week after the trails close for the season. The entire trail system has been groomed within the last three weeks and trails are in fair condition. The region has not received rain in over two weeks so trails are very dry and dusty. Please ride with your lights on at all times. Campgrounds remain open for the season.

Floodplain Thoughts

If you're thinking of buying a property that is or may be located in a floodplain - this article will tell you what exactly a floodplain is and help you know what to look for.

Floodplains

Floodplains are normally dry or semi-dry land areas to which water naturally flows as water levels rise. Floodplains are typically found near rivers, lakes and the coast; however, many of Wisconsin's flood-prone lands are simply low-lying areas or depressions where water naturally collects when it rains.

Property Rights in Wisconsin

This information comes directly off of the Wisconsin Realtors Association Website

Private Property Rights

"Property" is more than just the physical thing—the land, the bricks, the mortar—it is also the sum of all the rights and powers incident to ownership of the physical thing. It is the tangible and the intangible. Property is composed of constituent elements and of these elements the right to use the physical thing to the exclusion of others is the most essential and beneficial. Without this right all other elements would be of little value.' " -- Dickman v. Commissioner, 465 U.S. 330, 336 (1984).
